Escape to Serenity: A Secluded Cabin Getaway on the Southern Oregon Coast

Sabala Cabin

There’s something so unique and charming about the Southern Oregon coast, and few towns capture its essence quite like Bandon. Set on the mouth of the Coquille River and just a short drive from Coos Bay, Bandon is hands-down my favorite beach town in Southern Oregon. And, if you’d like to experience this magical area, check out the Sabala Cabin.

This quaint, woodsy cabin is located just north of town (about a 10 minute drive) on a quiet road. The first thing you’ll notice when you drive up is its bright turquoise blue color popping out of the green spruce trees that surround it. You’ll feel instantly welcome when you walk inside and although the cabin is on the smaller side, you’ll be surprised by how spacious it feels. There’s also a large yard and outdoor area for dogs and kids to run around and explore, and an outdoor fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

Everything is clean and well organized and it has a true “cabin in the woods” feel with wood walls and ceilings throughout. There’s a cozy living room with comfy couches, a smart TV with cable plus a huge selection of dvds, and a wood burning stove which I always love. The cabin also has electric heaters so if you don’t feel like fiddling with the stove you’ll still be warm at night. The kitchen is basic but has everything you need, except a dishwasher, and the dining room table can comfortably seat six people. On the main floor is the only true bedroom that comes with a queen sized bed, but upstairs in the loft are five twin beds which is a great place to pile in friends or kids.

The cabin is set back from other houses in the area, so you can enjoy the peaceful setting, but it’s still close to tons of activities. The beautiful and secluded Whisky Run Beach is only 1.5 miles away which makes for a nice, leisurely walk or quick drive. Here you can explore tidepools, go beachcombing for agates, watch kite surfers, or walk the miles of open beach. Cars are also allowed on this section of beach so if you’re an ATV enthusiast, this is a great spot for you! You can also head over to the world-class Bandon Dunes Golf Resort that features six different courses and is frequently ranked as one of the best public golf courses in the country, or get a little adventure on the 32-mile Whisky Run Mountain Bike Trail.

To get into town, you’ll take a short, 10 minute drive south where you can walk the famous boardwalk that’s lined with local art, or visit Face Rock Creamery which next to the Tillamook Creamy is one of the best places for cheese in the state and they always have lots of free samples! Budding photographers won’t want to miss the Coquille River Lighthouse, or you can spend all day exploring Bullards Beach State Park with tons of hiking trails and sand dunes.

This cute and serene cabin is rustic but with modern amenities, so you get the best of both worlds. It’s everything you want in a vacation rental!
