Bend
Volcanic landscapes, river towns, Cascade peaks, and the kind of clear high-desert light that makes you want to stay one more day.

A different side of Oregon
Central Oregon sits on the dry side of the Cascades, where a morning can begin among lava fields or river canyons and end over a great meal in town. Bend is the region’s energetic hub, but Sisters, Redmond, Sunriver, Prineville, and the smaller communities in between shape the trip just as much.
This guide is built to help you choose the right base, understand the geography, and use current primary sources when trail conditions, permits, weather, or reservations matter.

Make the practical part easy
Conditions in the high desert and Cascades can shift fast. Before heading for a trailhead or higher elevation, check the managing agency for permits, closures, weather, parking, wildfire and smoke information, and road conditions. On busy weekends, arriving early is often the simplest good decision.
Worth planning around
