Finders Keepers 2024: The Schedule For Gorgeous Glass Floats On The Coast Just Dropped!

Lincoln City has recently unveiled its 2024 schedule for unique glass float events, promising the placement of over 3,000 exquisite glass orbs along its seven-mile stretch of beaches. This year includes a special arrangement for those with disabilities, offering them a chance to obtain a glass float without needing to search the beach.

Apart from Lincoln City, other areas along the Oregon coast are also known for their glass artistry. Bandon, for instance, runs a year-long "Message In A Bottle" event, while Gold Beach is planning to introduce its own glass float event in the upcoming months.

Lincoln City is renowned for its daily glass float drops, a tradition that continues throughout the year. A notable upcoming event in 2023 on December 16-17 will celebrate Oregon's basketball rivalries with 50 unique red and black floats. The 2024 special glass float drop schedule for Lincoln City includes:

  • December 30 – January 1: 100 floats to ring in the New Year.
  • February 17 – 24: During Antique Week, 100 genuine Japanese antique floats will be released.
  • February 14-16: Valentine’s Day special with 50 red, pink, and white floats.
  • March 16-April 14: Spring break celebration with 200 floats.
  • April 20-22: Earth Day with 50 themed floats.
  • May 10-12: Mother’s Day with 50 floats.
  • May 25-27: Memorial Day with 50 patriotic floats.
  • June 14-16: Father’s Day with 50 floats.
  • June (TBD): Casino Anniversary with 29 floats.
  • June 22-23: Summer Kite event with 10 floats.
  • August 31-September 2: College Ball with 40 themed floats.
  • September 7-8: Fall Kite event with 10 floats.
  • September (TBD): Celebration of Honor with 50 patriotic floats.
  • October 31-November 2: Halloween with 50 floats.
  • November 28-December 1: Harvest Drop with 50 floats.
  • December 14-15: Holiday season with 50 floats.

This initiative, known as Finders Keepers, started in 1999 and turned into a year-round event in 2019 due to its overwhelming success.

Lincoln City also offers other ways for the public to obtain these unique glass pieces. By participating in the town’s Trash for Treasures initiative, where beachgoers collect and dispose of beach trash, they can enter special drawings. Additionally, there's a monthly drawing specifically for those with disabilities, accessible through the Welcome Center.

Meanwhile, Bandon's "Message In A Bottle" event, initially set to end in March 2023, continues due to its popularity. These bottles, crafted by skilled artisans, contain messages and offer the chance to win prizes.

In Gold Beach, the Visitor Center organizes a "beach treasures" event in April, known as "One Month – One Mile – 1,000 Floats," where glass floats are distributed to local businesses. Participants can collect these floats by following a Treasure Map and making purchases at participating stores.
