Nestled in the heart of Salem, Oregon is a slice of dessert heaven known as Gerry Frank's Konditorei. A beacon of sweetness since its opening in 1982, this extravagant bakery and café has been tantalizing taste buds with its gourmet creations and cozy ambiance ever since. The term Konditorei, which might sound like a tongue twister [pronounced: Kone-de-tore-eye], simply means a cake or pastry shop in German—a fitting name for a place that's all about celebrating the art of baking and sweet creations.

The story of the Konditorei is a tale of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of culinary excellence. Founded by Gerry Frank and Barney Rogers, the establishment initially wooed its patrons with an exquisite selection of gourmet cakes alongside a modest food menu. The menu's star? The cakes, of course, which quickly gained fame, leading to an expanded selection that today includes some of the most sought-after desserts in Salem.

Over the years, the Konditorei has seen its share of guardians who've contributed to its legacy. Linae Sielicky, who climbed the ranks from assistant manager to manager, and the dynamic duo Mike and Valerie Schultz from Lovin’ Oven, have all left their mark, baking the majority of the desserts that grace the menu today. In 2017, when Gerry decided it was time to pass on the torch at the age of 94, Linae, Mike, and Val took up the mantle, vowing to continue the tradition that has made the Konditorei a beloved Willamette Valley spot.
