A book cart might seem like an unlikely starting point for a Saturday night out, but Eugene has plans for that. The Friends of Eugene Public Library are preparing illuminated books and rolling carts for this year’s BRiGHT Parade, giving a familiar neighborhood institution a chance to show off after dark. It’s a lovely introduction to an event built around people finding creative ways to celebrate together. And on September 26, 2026, there will be plenty of room along the route to cheer them on.
The free celebration brings glowing floats, costumes, and moving artwork to downtown Eugene, with the parade beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Eighth Avenue and Pearl Street and returning to that intersection. Now in its fourth year, BRiGHT gives local creativity a particularly playful setting: city streets after sunset. This year’s theme, kindness, adds a welcoming thread to the spectacle. You can take part from the sidelines, too, so consider digging out those light-up accessories before leaving home.
For anyone who wants to make an afternoon of it, the Hult Center’s free “Get Lit at the Hult” gathering starts at 3 p.m. You can get your face painted, make a light-up hat, or pick up a “Be Kind” sign, with hats and signs available while supplies last. The venue is also advertising free parking in the Hult Center Garage, accessible from Sixth Avenue or Olive Street. Collect your belongings before the lobby closes at 7 p.m., then head over to find a place along the parade route.
The parade runs until 8:30 p.m., with people and electric power keeping the illuminated artwork moving. Over at the Farmers Market Pavilion and Park Blocks, the all-ages BRiGHT AfterParty opens at 7 p.m. and continues until 10 p.m. Portland DJ Krista Basis will provide the music, and visitors can try the arcade bus or Pongoalin, a table tennis court game. Organizers will also announce the parade award recipients during the party.
AfterParty artists include Foxlight Labs, Dave Shirkhani, Domenic Weber, Plaedo, Jacqueline McCormick, and Zenith Aerial Arts from Bounce Gymnastics and Aerial Arts Center. L.i.T Visuals and Nolan Day will provide projection mapping. When you’re ready to eat, look for Red 5 HotDogs and ThaiFusion2go, followed by sweets from Flying Fancy Cotton Candy and Peek-a-Boo Delight. Xicha Brewing and The Barn Light will serve drinks. EUGENE BRiGHT Parade produces the procession with sponsorship from City of Eugene Cultural Services, which produces the AfterParty.
If you usually visit the pavilion to shop for local produce, this is a chance to spend an evening there. Home to the Lane County Farmers Market, the wood-and-glass building at 85 East Eighth Avenue has large roll-up doors that open toward the plaza. Bring a layer if you plan to stay awhile, since the pavilion has no heating or cooling and its indoor temperature follows the weather. The building also has restrooms, including an accessible restroom, and a water bottle refill station.
