This year, swap the chaos of Black Friday sales for the serenity of Oregon’s great outdoors. "Green Friday" returns, offering a perfect excuse to lace up your hiking boots, grab your fishing gear, and reconnect with nature. On the day after Thanksgiving, Oregon State Parks and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) are teaming up to make the outdoors even more accessible with free parking at select state parks and free fishing across the state.
Free Day-Use Parking at Oregon State Parks
If you're planning a post-feast adventure, you're in luck. On Friday, day-use parking fees will be waived at all Oregon state parks that typically charge for entry. This includes some of the most beloved destinations in the state, such as:
- Fort Stevens State Park – Explore the historic fort and stunning beaches.
- Cape Lookout State Park – Take in breathtaking coastal views on a hike.
- Silver Falls State Park – Stroll through lush forests and marvel at cascading waterfalls.
- Milo McIver State Park – Enjoy riverside trails and views of Mt. Hood.
Most state parks in Oregon are already free year-round, but this special day ensures that everyone can enjoy access to those few parks with a $5 daily fee. Note that Shore Acres State Park, famous for its holiday lights display, will offer free parking until 4 p.m. only.
A Farewell to $5 Parking Fees
Take advantage of this year’s Green Friday, as it marks one of the last times you'll see the $5 parking fee. Starting January 2, 2025, the daily fee at state parks will increase to $10, though the cost of annual passes will remain steady at $30 for 12 months and $50 for two years.
Free Fishing Weekend: Cast Your Line Without a License
For anglers, ODFW’s Free Fishing Weekend adds another layer of excitement. On both Friday and Saturday, you can fish, crab, or clam anywhere in Oregon without needing a license, combined angling tag, or endorsements. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or trying your hand at fishing for the first time, this is a golden opportunity to enjoy Oregon’s lakes, rivers, and coastal waters.

While the licensing requirement is waived, standard regulations still apply—meaning catch limits and other rules must be followed. For families, ODFW will also host free fishing events across the state, complete with loaner equipment and lessons from staff and volunteers.
