There are no words that can make sense of losing a child, and for one Bend family, the heartbreak following Thursday’s tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary School is something no parent should ever have to endure.

Five-year-old Rhoam Summer was among the children whose lives were taken in the October 15 shooting, according to a GoFundMe organized to support his family. As his loved ones face an unimaginable loss, friends and neighbors are coming together in hopes of easing even a small part of the burden they now carry.

The fundraiser, titled Coming Together for the Summer Family, was organized by Sophia Sanders, Adriana Aquarius, and Lillian Jolly. Donations will help cover everyday household expenses, allowing Rhoam’s family the time and space to grieve without the added pressure of financial responsibilities. Organizers are also encouraging those who cannot contribute financially to offer gift cards, prayers, or simply a message of kindness.

Thursday’s shooting claimed the lives of three children and a teacher, leaving families across Bend and throughout Oregon heartbroken. In the hours that followed, the community began coming together to support those affected, a reminder that even in the darkest moments, compassion can bring people closer.

No amount of money can replace what the Summer family has lost. But it can help make the coming days a little less overwhelming, giving them one less thing to worry about as they navigate a future they never imagined.

For those wishing to help, the fundraiser is accepting donations directly through GoFundMe. Even sharing the campaign can help extend its reach and remind this grieving family that they are not facing this heartbreak alone.
