Halloween Is Getting a Little Sweeter in Boring, Oregon
Let’s face it. Halloween can get expensive, especially when you’ve got a few little ghosts and goblins to entertain. Between costumes, candy, haunted attractions, and admission fees, a family outing can quickly turn into a surprisingly costly adventure.

That’s part of what makes Dolan Creek Farm so appealing. Rather than building its fall experience around a long list of individually priced attractions, the farm keeps things refreshingly simple. Pay your admission, head inside, and enjoy the activities without constantly reaching for your wallet.
And this year, there’s an extra reason to mark your calendar.
The farm has officially announced the return of its Halloween Trick-or-Treat Trail on October 31. While the organizers haven’t released the full schedule or specific trail details, the announcement gives families another festive option for celebrating Halloween in the Portland area.

It’s also a wonderful excuse to get the kids out into the countryside, away from screens, and into the kind of autumn afternoon that makes this season so special in Oregon.
Tractor Rides, Friendly Animals, and Plenty of Fall Fun
You know you’ve found a good pumpkin patch when the kids are already asking to do everything a second time before you’ve even finished the first round.

At Dolan Creek Farm, that enthusiasm won’t cost you extra. Tractor rides are included with admission, and according to the farm, visitors can hop aboard as many times as they’d like. If your little one decides that riding behind a tractor is the greatest thing they’ve ever experienced, well, you’re in luck.
Animal lovers will find plenty to smile about, too. The farm welcomes visitors to spend time with its animals, while thoughtfully arranged seasonal decorations provide those irresistible fall photo opportunities. There’s also a campfire where you can settle in, warm up, and enjoy a little break from all the excitement.

And because this is Oregon, where even a simple trip to the pumpkin patch can turn into an outdoor adventure, there’s a nature trail worth exploring.
There’s a Hidden Animal Hunt Along the Nature Trail
Here’s something we especially love about this place: Dolan Creek Farm has turned an ordinary walk through the pastures into a little scavenger hunt.

Along the nature trail, visitors can search for hidden animal figures tucked into the landscape. Keep your eyes peeled for everything from woodland creatures to a few unexpected additions. It’s a fun way to get kids paying attention to their surroundings instead of racing straight toward the next attraction.
The trail winds through portions of the farm’s pastures, offering a quieter experience away from the main pumpkin patch. It’s also part of an ongoing effort to care for the property. In 2026, the farm began removing invasive Himalayan blackberry and working to restore the creek and surrounding native habitat.

One thing to keep in mind: this isn’t a smooth, paved walking path. The ground can be uneven, and the farm cautions that navigating it with a stroller may be challenging. Comfortable shoes are definitely a good idea, particularly after one of those classic Oregon October rain showers.
Come for the Pumpkins, Stay for the Doughnuts
Is it even fall in Oregon if you don’t treat yourself to something warm, sweet, and probably covered in sugar?
Dolan Creek Farm advertises Doug’s doughnuts, cider, and coffee among its seasonal offerings, giving visitors a few delicious reasons to take their time. There’s also a mercantile to browse while you’re exploring the property.

Of course, no pumpkin patch adventure would be complete without choosing the perfect pumpkin. Whether you’re searching for a great big jack-o’-lantern candidate or a little one for the porch, you’ll have the chance to bring some of that autumn magic home. Just remember that pumpkins and food are purchased separately from admission.
And here’s another nice touch: you’re welcome to bring your own food. The farm has picnic tables, and visitors can even spread out a blanket for a picnic. That’s especially handy for families with picky eaters or anyone hoping to keep the day’s expenses down.
Planning a Visit? Here’s What You Should Know
Dolan Creek Farm sits at 13490 SE Orient Drive in Boring, east of Portland, making it a convenient fall outing for families around the metro area and Mount Hood foothills.
The farm’s regular 2026 pumpkin patch season runs through October 31, with visiting hours Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The final admission is at 4:30 p.m., although we’d recommend arriving much earlier to give yourself time to enjoy the property.

Admission is $10 for adults and anyone older than 12, $5 for children ages 12 and under, and free for infants. The farm accepts cash and Visa.
A few additional things are worth knowing before you go. Dolan Creek prefers visitors to leave their dogs at home, although well-behaved, leashed dogs may be permitted under the farm’s rules. Pets must stay out of the animal area. Most of the main pumpkin patch is on compact gravel, but parts of the trail, animal areas, and tractor experience may not be accessible to everyone. An accessible portable restroom is available.

For the Halloween Trick-or-Treat Trail specifically, don’t assume the regular daytime hours will apply. The farm has confirmed the October 31 event date, but the special hours are still pending.
