As the cherry blossoms begin to bloom and the Oregon coast shakes off the last whispers of winter, Newport prepares to welcome back a burgeoning spring tradition that captured hearts last year. The Art in April show, a vibrant celebration of creativity and community spirit, is making its eagerly anticipated return to the Newport Recreation Center.
This isn't your ordinary art show. Imagine a place where the worlds of handmade stickers collide with fine art masterpieces, where the creativity of 80 artists comes to life under one roof. From the whimsical to the profound, there's truly a treasure for everyone. Jenni Remillard, Newport’s very own Recreation Program Specialist, puts it best: “That’s what I love about our shows, we have a big variety of artists and price ranges.” It's this eclectic mix that ensures visitors can find that perfect piece, whether it's a gift for a loved one or a treat for themselves.
Last year’s event set the bar high, and this year promises to soar even further. The buzz among the artist community is palpable; spots filled up within three days, leaving a burgeoning waiting list in its wake. It's a testament to the show's popularity and the supportive environment it fosters. “We have artists that come back year after year,” Remillard notes, highlighting the loyalty and enthusiasm that the Art in April show and its autumn counterpart, Autumn Fest, inspire among creatives.
But it’s not just about the art. The event champions family inclusivity, offering free childcare in the Child Center manned by trained Recreation Leaders. They promise art-themed fun for kids aged 5-12, allowing parents to explore the exhibits worry-free. Meanwhile, the aroma of freshly baked goods and hot teas from Siren’s Lure Teahouse and Bakery will waft through the air, adding a sensory delight to the visual feast.
With both gyms of the Newport Recreation Center transforming into a bustling marketplace of art and creativity, visitors are in for an immersive experience. Best of all? Admission is free. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 13th, from 10am to 4pm. Whether you’re an art aficionado or simply looking for a unique way to spend a Saturday, the Art in April show is an event not to be missed. Let’s celebrate the talent within our community and perhaps, find that special piece that speaks to you. . For more information, please contact Jenni Remillard at 541 265 4859 or at [email protected].
