Local history and character
The Tututni people lived along the lower Rogue River for generations. Gold Beach, first called Ellensburg, took its current name from beach placer mining; fishing, timber, and river transportation later drove the local economy.
Gold Beach is where a coast trip can turn inland without losing its wildness. The Rogue River reaches deep into forested canyons, while broad beaches and wind-shaped headlands make the town a natural base for active days.
