I’ll be honest, this is making my stomach turn. I can’t fully express the anger and sadness I feel watching a defenseless dog apparently being punched by someone who should have been protecting it.

Salem police are now trying to identify the man seen in the video, which was posted to Facebook July 25, 2026.

Officers responded shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday to the area of Wooddale Avenue NE and 32nd Avenue NE after receiving a report that a dog had been struck. Police said the incident wasn’t reported until about an hour after the video was recorded, which made it much harder for officers to locate the man involved.

There is no excuse for this. None.

Anyone who takes their anger out on a helpless animal is a coward. A dog cannot fight back, call for help, or explain what happened. It depends entirely on people to step in and protect it.

Please look closely at the image and share this post. Someone knows who this man is. Someone may recognize his face, his clothing, the area, or the dog.
