BBQ is typically synonymous with the summer when friends and family spend time in the backyard grilling up burgers, ribs, and hot dogs on a sunny, hot day. But why should BBQ be only for the summer? Who says we can’t enjoy summer staples like slow-smoked meats and potato salad all year long?

Well, if you’re in Eugene or Springfield you can get some Hole in the Wall BBQ any time you want. They’ve been called out by multiple publications over the years for having some of the best barbeque in the area, so whether you’re in the mood for a pulled pork sandwich, smoked ribs, or tender brisket, Hole in the Wall has got you covered.

The restaurant has stayed under the same local ownership for 30 years now and have remained proud members of the community the entire time. Way back in 1992, after having moved back to Oregon from Arizona, Richard and Linda Becker were searching for the best barbecue in their area, but kept coming up short. So what do you do when you can’t find good BBQ in your town? You open your own restaurant!

The Beckers now have locations in Eugene and Springfield, and they offer catering throughout the entire state of Oregon. The Springfield location is a bit larger and serves breakfast as well as having a full lounge with 20 taps serving up the best Oregon brews. Both restaurants have a laid-back, country feel to them that you’d expect in a BBQ joint, and everyone is always having a good time. You’ll love the little touches like the life-size John Wayne cutout that greets you when you head into the bathrooms at the Eugene location.

The crew at Hole in the Wall prides itself on taking their time to slow-smoke their meats over hardwood for up to 18 hours (using a rub that’s a top-secret family recipe!), till they're tender and fall off the bone. House favorites are the brisket, pulled pork, and award-winning ribs which are some of the best you’ll find in the area. Most meats you can order as a sandwich or a platter and many plates come with a slice of moist and flavorful cornbread. You can also request extra hot bbq sauce options for those who like a little kick to their meats.

Since the Springfield restaurant is bigger, they’re able to offer more menu options and have specials like the decadent Brisket Stroganoff made with their slow-smoked brisket over buttered noodles and served with a slice of Texas Toast, or their Baja Fish Tacos on warm corn tortillas filled with crispy golden cod, topped with cabbage, tomatoes, shredded cheese and drizzled in the house baja sauce.

Hole in Wall is also known for their house-made sides (called “Kickers” on the menu) like creamy coleslaw, baked beans, sweet potato fries, hand cut fries, fried pickles, Texas potatoes, and dill potato salad. Pair all this goodness with delicious desserts like berry cobbler, generous portions, and incredibly friendly service and you can’t go wrong!
