Fundraiser Launched for Bend Father Who Helped Stop Silver Rail Elementary School Shooter
As the Bend community struggles to come to terms with Thursday’s heartbreaking tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary School, a new fundraiser is seeking to support the father credited with stopping the gunman and potentially saving additional lives.
Kaylub Giamanco, a husband and father of two young daughters, ages 5 and 10, has been identified by a close family friend as the man who confronted the shooter inside the school on October 15. Both of his daughters attend Silver Rail Elementary. According to the fundraiser, Kaylub has called Bend home since middle school and is now facing the emotional aftermath of an unimaginable experience.
Amy Reynolds, a longtime friend of the family, organized the GoFundMe to help Kaylub, his wife Kelsey, and their daughters begin healing. Donations will help cover trauma counseling, lost wages, everyday living expenses, and any additional professional or legal support the family may need.
The fundraiser also shares a message attributed to Kaylub: “Good has to come from this. Things have to change. Our children deserve to be safe at school.”
While the community recognizes his extraordinary courage, the family now faces its own difficult road toward recovery. In a moment when Bend is grieving so many lives forever changed, neighbors have an opportunity to offer some much-needed support to a family that has already given so much.
