Why Some Cities Are Choosing Drones Over Fireworks

Several Oregon cities are moving toward drone and laser light shows due to increasing concerns about wildfire risks, noise, and environmental impact. Unlike fireworks, drone shows avoid litter, loud booms, and chemical residue, offering a safer and more sustainable celebration. For cities still using fireworks, attendees are encouraged to enjoy public displays rather than lighting personal fireworks, especially in dry or fire-prone areas. Responsible celebration keeps both communities and natural spaces safe.

Please note: In the past few years, several cities and communities in Oregon have outright banned the sale or use of fireworks. If you plan to light fireworks this year, be certain that it's still allowed where you plan to light them.

While we can't cover every possible Independence Day celebration across Oregon, we hope these have given you some ideas of great places to spend time and celebrate with friends and family this year!
