The 7-year-old girl wounded in the Silver Rail Elementary School shooting in Bend is in serious but stable condition at OHSU, police said Friday. The Bend Police Department’s October 16 update also said she received lifesaving care at the scene. Her name was not released.

Earlier reporting described the child’s injuries as critical. Friday’s assessment provides a new account of her condition, but police did not give a longer-term prognosis. The girl was one of two people hospitalized after the October 15 attack, which killed three children and a teacher. The suspect also died.

We previously reported on a fundraiser organized to support the injured child’s family. That story described requests for help with travel, lodging, lost wages and household expenses, while noting that the campaign’s connection to the family had not been independently verified. The medical information in this update comes from police.
