Statistics say that three out of five new restaurants will fail in their first year. There's something to be said for restaurants that hang around for a long time then. You hear about some of these places that have been around for forty years or more and wonder what makes them so special. The food, obviously, but a lot of places with great food end up flopping after a few years for one reason or another. My Father's Place in Portland's central eastside industrial district draws all types: from college students, to tourists, artists, drifters with a story to tell, and white collar professionals. It's a melting pot, a people watching spot, and one of those really special places with comfort food so good that patrons have been coming back for 46 years.
Breakfast Served All Day And Done Right At My Father's Place
Family owned and operated, this bar and restaurant has been serving up authentic old-school PDX comfort food since 1978. When we say comfort food, we mean it. This is the spot you come when you want something that reminds you of mom's home cooking.
It's the spot to hang out with friends while you grab drinks and mozzarella sticks. It's one of those quintessentially weird and wonderful Portland spots that makes people think of the term, 'Keep Portland Weird'.
One of our favorite types of comfort food to grab here is breakfast. Breakfast is served all day which is a good thing, because sometimes you're craving crispy bacon and eggs for dinner and can't find a good spot to make it for you.
Eggs Benedict, stacks of pancakes, and delicious omelets are just a few of the classic breakfasts you'll find at My Father's Place. There are some items that really stand out on the breakfast menu however that we think you'll enjoy.
If it's your first time in and you want something filling and bursting with flavor, check out the corned beef hash and eggs, which comes with your choice of a biscuit, toast or pancakes.
The Chicken Fry Delight is another must try. This is delicious chicken fried steak on top of hash browns, with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, two eggs, country gravy, and your choice of a biscuit, toast or pancakes. Absolutely delicious, and the definition of comfort food and a hearty breakfast all rolled into one.
Sandwiches, Wraps And Burgers You Must Try At My Father's Place In PDX
French Dip is and always has been one of my favorites, and My Father's Place has two options you'll want to try. The classic French Dip has roast beef and Swiss on a French roll served with au jus to dip it in. Then there's the Stark Dip, which is roast beef, Swiss, caramelized onions and horseradish aioli on a French roll with au jus. This is a great twist on a classic with a little bite.
They also serve up the classic Philly Cheesesteak, another delicious comfort food and local favorite. Shaved sirloin steak, green peppers, onions and cheese sauce on a hoagie make for a satisfying meal, especially paired with some fries or onion rings.
The Smoked Pulled Pork and Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwiches will also give your taste buds a delightful kick and leave you wanting to come back to My Father's Place again and again.
If you're in the mood for a burger, My Father's Place has you covered with some delicious options. We recommend the Western Bacon Cheeseburger, with onion rings, bacon, American cheese and barbecue sauce. Another mouthwatering option is the Chili Burger, which is served open face with cheddar and onions.
Their wraps are pretty delicious too. Try the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, with sliced chicken strips, tasty buffalo sauce, bleu cheese, tomatoes, olives, and lettuce.
The Pirate Wrap is really good if you're in the mood for seafood. With two pieces of beer battered cod, tomatoes, lettuce, cheddar and tartar sauce, you really can't go wrong.
If you're just in the mood for drinks and comfort food appetizers, buckle up, because they've got some delicious things in store for your taste buds. Classics like sweet potato fries, chili cheese fries and onion rings are a given. Add to that the beer battered mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and sweet chili buffalo wings, and it's looking to be a great night out on the town.
