Pendleton is a small town of about 17,000 people in northeastern Oregon. Known for the Pendleton Roundup, world famous historic underground tours, and gorgeous blankets made at Pendleton Woolen Mills, this small city is full of heart and is a great place to visit. When many Oregonians think about heading out for the weekend, they think of the coast, or the mountains, but we think Pendleton is more than deserving of a spot on your getaway list. Not only are there a wealth of interesting places to visit and things to do, but also tons of great places to eat. One of our favorites (and a favorite of locals to boot) is Big John's Hometown Pizza.

Big John's is your classic pizza parlor serving up delicious pizza and breadsticks. While many of the pizza parlors we might remember from our childhood have fallen by the wayside, driven out of business by big pizza chains, Big John's has clearly been doing something right (and truly delicious) to stay in business for 35 years.

While Big John's Hometown Pizza has delicious chicken wings, baked Italian sandwiches and a healthy salad bar, their pizza is the star of the show. On the menu you'll find the regular suspects like pepperoni, Hawaiian, and the big John's Special (salami, pepperoni, beef, sausage, fresh mushrooms, black olives and a three cheese blend). Sometimes you can't beat the classics, and Big John's does them right. The taco pizza at Big John's is also really tasty and worth trying.

A local favorite in Pendleton is the Hometown Hero, with real Canadian bacon, beef, pepperoni and a three cheese blend.

We recommend trying the Wild Fire pizza. This pie is loaded up with pineapple and jalapenos, pepperjack cheese and fresh mushrooms, and is oh so delicious.

The Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Pizza is also pretty amazing, with a tangy barbecue sauce, chicken, bacon chips, pineapple and a three cheese blend.

Whatever you order when you stop in, don't forget the hot breadsticks! You can order original or cheesy breadsticks, or if you're craving something sweet, go with the cinnamon and sugar breadsticks!
