The Humble Pig Cafe opened in August 2019, which in retrospect, was not the most ideal time to start a business since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in early 2020 and effectively shut the entire world down as we know it. And yet, like the mighty phoenix, the Humble Pig made it through the fire and emerged on the other side to the delight of all! It’s now become one of the most popular lunch spots in Molalla drawing hungry customers from throughout the area.

The owners, Sarah Shanky and Joe Selinger, are both trained chefs and after having spent years working for other people, they wanted to create something of their own and the Humble Pig was born. Today, you can find the pair running the show at the cafe efficiently, professionally and so friendly—they love chatting up their customers!

In a small town like Molalla, you’ve got to be big on community or else you’re never gonna make it, and the folks at the Humble Pig have got this in spades. During the wildfires of 2020, the restaurant kicked it into high gear serving free meals to first responders tackling the blaze as well as residents who had been forced to evacuate. Even today, you can participate in their “love up” program by pre-purchasing a meal that will be given out for free to a community member in need.

The restaurant focuses primarily on pork since there’s so many ways to cook and serve it, and they’ve become famous in the area for their slow-roasted, barbecue meat. They’ve got Cubans, cheesesteaks, smash burgers, Italians, salads, homemade sides, and spectacular desserts. There’s no fryer in the cafe, so that means no sides like french fries or onion rings are on the menu. Instead, this is your classic sandwich-and-a-bag-of-chips kind of lunch.

Try the Italian Stallion made with loads of grilled sirloin, genoa salami, provolone, iceberg lettuce, vinaigrette, aioli, giardineria, and cherry peppers on a baguette, or the Midnight Special piled high with house pulled pork, Hills smoked ham, cherry peppers, Humble mustard and pickles on a brioche bun. If you’re in the mood for a burger, go for the California Shack Burger made with double quarter pound smash patties, mushrooms, truffle oil, caramelized onions, iceberg lettuce, tomato and Shack Sauce on a brioche bun.

They also have homemade pickled veggies, hearty salads, and soups made daily that are always worth checking out like their Hungarian Mushroom or Pumpkin Curry. And as if these mouthwatering sandwiches weren’t enough to drive customers in, they also have decadent homemade desserts and pastries made every day! Shanky is the baker of the duo, and she’s always churning out a rotating selection of delicious sweet treats.

The one downside is that they aren’t open Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, but seeing as this is a small, family-run restaurant, they need their breaks too! Join the crew at the Humble Pig Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 6:00pm, or for happy hour from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and all day Saturday for deals on their Humble Burger, Sweet Caroline pulled pork sandwich, Roasted Chile Bacon Mac, or their mini DIY sandwich plates!
