For years, Portland residents have been longing for the chance to enjoy a late-night Double-Double with animal-style fries without having to drive hours to one of Oregon's outpost locations. After multiple delays and years of anticipation, it seems the wait is nearly over. In a recent development, the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals has given the final approval for an In-N-Out Burger to break ground in Washington County.

The new location is set to open along Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway at 10565 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, just a short 15-minute drive from downtown Portland. This decision came after two years of back-and-forth discussions and an appeal from a local Beaverton resident concerned about potential traffic congestion. Despite these challenges, the state has now given the iconic California-based chain the green light to proceed.

In-N-Out, which first ventured outside California in the 1990s and arrived in Oregon in 2015 with its Medford location, has slowly expanded across the state, with locations in Grants Pass, Keizer, and Roseburg. However, Portlanders have been left without a nearby option, leaving many fans eager for a local outpost to satisfy their cravings.

While no specific opening date has been confirmed, the recent decision clears a major hurdle for the burger chain to finally set roots in the Portland metro area. Until then, locals can still make the trek to one of Oregon’s existing locations or wait until 2025 when a new In-N-Out will open in Ridgefield, Washington, only a 30-minute drive from Portland.

After years of hope, Portland residents may finally have their chance to experience animal-style burgers and fries right in their own backyard.
