Denver Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton revealed on Wednesday that rookie Bo Nix will take on the role of starting quarterback for the team this season.
Nix, 24, was the Broncos' first-round pick in this year's NFL draft. His college football career included stints at both Auburn University and the University of Oregon.
Payton described Nix as "exceptional" when discussing the decision. Nix has already settled in the Denver area, having purchased a $4 million home in the Castle Pines Village neighborhood with his wife, Izzy.

The Broncos have been successful in both of their preseason matchups so far. Their final preseason game is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 25, at Empower Field, where they will face the Arizona Cardinals.
The Broncos' 2024 season opener is set for Sept. 8 against the Seattle Seahawks, followed by their first regular-season home game on Sept. 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nix, who holds the NCAA record for most games played at the quarterback position, spent three seasons with the Auburn Tigers, earning the title of 2019 SEC Freshman of the Year. He transferred to the Oregon Ducks in 2022 and was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2023 after leading the nation in touchdowns. He was then selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Bo Nix was born on February 25, 2000, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. During his time at Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama, where his father was the coach, Nix accumulated over 12,000 yards of total offense and 161 touchdowns. In his senior year in 2018, he was honored with Alabama's Mr. Football Award. Ranked as the top dual-threat quarterback of his class, Nix committed to playing college football at Auburn University.
