How the city took shape
Irrigation, rail, agriculture, and aviation built Redmond’s regional role.
Northern Paiute people lived across this high-desert country before the modern town. Frank and Josephine Redmond established a homestead near planned irrigation and rail routes, and the townsite was platted in the early twentieth century. Canals, the railroad, farming and ranching, and later the airfield helped Redmond develop as a service and transportation center—a role that still distinguishes it from nearby resort towns.
