Saylor Graham-Poarch is stable and out of intensive care, her family said in an October 26 statement shared by KTVZ. The seven-year-old was critically injured in the October 15 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend. Her family says she has a long recovery ahead and that they want to stay beside her as she heals.
They thanked everyone who has offered prayers, messages and help, explaining that they cannot reply to each person. Their gratitude for Saylor’s progress is accompanied by grief for the families of the three children and teacher who died. They asked people to continue keeping their daughter in their thoughts and prayers.
Saylor was already known to students at Bend Senior High School as their 2024–25 “sparrow,” a child supported through the Sparrow Clubs service program. The family’s update brings a welcome change from her initial critical condition, but it does not announce a hospital discharge or a timetable for recovery. Central Oregon Daily also reported the family’s statement on Monday.
Helping Saylor’s Family Stay Beside Her
The family’s statement directs supporters to Support Saylor’s Recovery, a GoFundMe organized by Trisa Lovejoy on behalf of Danielle Graham. The fundraiser describes Saylor as a loving, determined seven-year-old. It says both parents are self-employed and that their ability to work has been limited while caring for her. Donations are intended to help with hospital bills, lodging, transportation and time away from work.
Support for Saylor has also brought people together across Central Oregon. Earlier this month, TOL reported on a benefit class planned by The Dance Connection Bend for October 18. Instructor Shannon Guerrero knew Saylor through Sparrow Clubs and had danced with her at the studio. The idea for the class came from Guerrero’s daughters, as KPTV reported at the time.
For those looking to help now, the recovery fundraiser remains available through the link above. The family also welcomes people sharing it and continuing to offer encouragement. Readers can find their complete statement at KTVZ.
