Anyone who wants to keep an item from the memorials outside Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend has until the end of Wednesday, October 21, to collect it. Bend-La Pine Schools announced the deadline Tuesday as it prepares to gather the tributes and move them to a safe location within the district. The announcement did not give a specific pickup hour or a date for the move.

The district said victim support professionals are guiding the process. It will photograph the memorials to preserve and share the community’s expressions of support. Flowers, messages and chalk art are among the tributes described in the update.

The memorials follow the October 15 shooting, which killed three children and a teacher and injured two others, according to Bend Police. The suspect also died. Community efforts since the attack have included two Bend students’ call for a day of kindness on October 20. Silver Rail remains closed until further notice.
