A groundbreaking new study has finally settled the age-old debate: according to a nationwide survey, most women agree that a six-inch Subway sandwich is the perfect size. Conducted by the highly respected Institute of Culinary and Statistical Research, the study found that when it comes to satisfying hunger without feeling overwhelmed, six inches is the sweet spot.

“There’s just something about the six-inch that feels… right,” said Amanda Taylor, a self-proclaimed sandwich enthusiast from Denver. “It’s filling, it gets the job done, and honestly, anything bigger is just too much to handle in one sitting.”

Many participants in the study echoed this sentiment, stating that while they had tried larger options in the past, they often found themselves regretting it halfway through. “Sure, a footlong seems exciting at first,” said Jessica Martinez, a 29-year-old marketing manager. “But by the time you’re halfway through, your jaw is sore, you’re exhausted, and honestly, it’s just a mess.”

Subway, the world’s leading provider of questionably fresh sandwich ingredients, welcomed the study’s findings. “We’ve always believed our six-inch subs provide the perfect balance of satisfaction and convenience,” said a Subway spokesperson. “Of course, if you prefer a footlong, we’re happy to accommodate, but we understand that not everyone has the stamina.”

While six inches seems to be the golden standard, the study did find a small percentage of participants who preferred the larger option. “Some people just want more,” said Dr. Linda Brewster, the lead researcher. “And that’s okay! There’s no shame in wanting something bigger—some folks like the challenge, others just have a larger appetite. We support all preferences.”

Men across the nation have responded to the study with mixed reactions. “I always thought bigger was better,” admitted Jeff Cunningham, a 32-year-old gym bro who definitely skips leg day. “But if women are saying six inches is ideal, I guess I’ll just have to embrace that.”

The debate, however, is far from over. Rival sandwich chains have already begun contesting the study’s legitimacy, with Jersey Mike’s suggesting that size isn’t everything and Firehouse Subs subtly hinting that it’s about how you use the sandwich, not how long it is.

In the meantime, Subway customers can rest easy knowing that six inches is more than enough to leave most women satisfied—at least when it comes to lunch.
