Ducks Player Evan Stewart Arrested on DUII Charge at 5 A.M.

An 8 p.m. kickoff. A 5 a.m. DUII arrest. Somewhere in there, a ride home would’ve been useful.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — There’s a point when a late night becomes an early morning, and the people making responsible choices start brewing coffee.

Springfield police arrested Evan Stewart, 23, of Eugene, on suspicion of driving under the influence around 5 a.m. Oct. 18 after stopping him on Highway 126 near Mohawk Boulevard.

I’d like to point out that this follows a late game that started at 8 p.m. right here at Autzen in Eugene. With a kickoff that late, your postgame plans really ought to include transportation. “We’ll figure it out” is a terrible ride service.

Police said an officer suspected Stewart was impaired during the traffic stop and began a DUII investigation. The officer determined there was enough evidence to arrest Stewart, who was taken to the Springfield Municipal Jail.

Not an ideal place to start your Sunday. The brunch options are limited.

Earlier that morning, Springfield police also pursued speeding cars in the west Centennial area before ending the chase. That investigation continues.

Police said Stewart is not suspected of involvement in that chase. Separate incident, same very busy morning for Springfield police.

Enjoy the game. Enjoy the celebration. Budget for the ride home like it’s stadium parking.
