One of the first videos surfaced from a resident near Cornelius, capturing the bright flash around 10:47 p.m. More footage has since emerged from Southern Oregon, including Grants Pass, while other reports mention sightings in Bend. Social media groups, like the Lane County Caught on Camera page, have been buzzing with speculation and excitement, with one video apparently filmed in Thurston.
FOX 12 News shared a video from Ann Hopper, a resident near Cornelius, who recorded the bright green light at 10:47 p.m.
But what exactly was this green fireball? Theories range from the plausible to the far-fetched. It could have been a meteor blazing through the atmosphere, a common enough occurrence but still impressive when witnessed. However, the vivid green color has left even seasoned observers puzzled. Could it have been space debris, like an old satellite burning up on reentry, or perhaps a fragment of some long-forgotten spacecraft?
Here's another bizarre video, from Renee Beltran, of Grants Pass, in Southern Oregon.

While some enjoy letting their imaginations run wild—wondering if it might be a sign of something extraterrestrial—most experts are leaning toward a natural or human-made explanation. The green hue could suggest a specific mineral composition, which might point to the type of object that was burning up as it entered the Earth’s atmosphere. Still, without more information, it’s hard to say for sure.
Meteorologists from the National Weather Service have acknowledged the event, but they, like the rest of us, are still waiting for answers. Attempts to contact NASA and the Center for Near Earth Object Studies have so far gone unanswered, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the story.
Whether it was a meteor, space junk, or something else entirely, the green fireball certainly made for an unforgettable night in Oregon. Until we hear more, this glowing mystery will continue to fuel speculation, with many eager to know what truly shot across the sky that night.
