Fall is almost here and I couldn't be more excited! Aside from gorgeous fall leaves and cool weather that makes for great fall hikes, autumn means pumpkin patch season, hot apple cider, and family trips to the corn maze. Just a short drive from downtown Portland, Sauvie Island is home to one of the most beloved fall traditions in the Portland Metro area: The MAiZE at The Pumpkin Patch. This iconic corn maze, now in its 26th year, is a must-visit for anyone looking to get lost in the spirit of the season!

How do you decide to become a corn maze farmer? It all started back in 1998 when Craig and Casey Easterly, inspired by a suggestion from their father, decided to create their very first MAiZE in Ontario, Oregon (on the Oregon and Idaho border). After a successful debut, they set their sights on Sauvie Island, drawn by its already thriving farm scene. Fast forward to today and The MAiZE has become a staple of fall fun for families across Portland.

This year, the MAiZE is getting into the Peanuts spirit, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the beloved comic strip. Visitors can weave through eight acres of corn while paying tribute to Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang. The theme, "Happiness is… A Corn Maze," captures the joy and nostalgia that comes with exploring the winding paths of this seasonal spectacle.

When can I start visiting The MAiZE this year? The MAiZE opens its doors on August 31st, kicking off two months of autumn adventures.

How long does it take to get through the corn maze? Allow yourself at least 45 minutes to solve the corn maze, but plan for an hour.

While the corn maze is the main attraction, there's plenty of fall themed activities here to keep you engaged in the autumn spirit. Navigate the maze, pick out the perfect pumpkin, or enjoy a bonfire with friends.

Nestled right next to the maze, the bonfire pits are a cozy spot for gatherings of all kinds. With picnic tables, firewood, and decorative lights, these areas are perfect for birthday parties, work events, or just a night out with friends and family. Just be sure to book ahead, as these spots fill up quickly.

I want a bonfire night, but what about food? Groups can bring in their own food and drink, but not alcohol. When you reserve a bonfire area, a power strip will be available for you to plug in crock pots, though guests should not plan on plugging in devices that require high voltage.

What else is there to do at The MAiZE and Pumpkin Patch? The Pumpkin Patch also offers daily hayrides out to their U-pick fields, where you can find your perfect pumpkin straight from the vine. For those who love animals, the Big Red Animal Barn is a must-see, full of friendly farm critters waiting to say hello.

Tip: If it's been raining at the pumpkin patch, rain boots are an absolute must for anyone planning on going through the corn maze. Adventurers headed through the maze can encounter inches of water and mud after a good rain, so be sure that every member of your group has rain boots.
