Build the day around conditions rather than a single photograph. Fog can erase the high view; heavy surf can make shoreline areas unsafe. Stay on designated paths and viewing areas, never turn your back on the ocean, and do not approach Thor's Well for a close-up. Good footwear and rain layers are useful in every season.
Good coast rule: Treat posted closures, barriers, surf warnings, and changing weather as part of the landscape. Before leaving, check current conditions with the agency that manages the site.
