Most of Oregon is on Pacific Time. But Ontario, Vale, Nyssa and much of Malheur County in the far east run on Mountain Time—one hour ahead. Here is the map logic, daylight-saving answer, and a simple way to avoid arriving an hour late.
Is Oregon in Pacific Time?
Yes—almost all of it. Portland, the Coast, Salem, Eugene, Bend, Medford, Klamath Falls, Pendleton and the rest of the state use Pacific Time. The notable exception is the populated part of far-eastern Malheur County, where Ontario, Vale, Nyssa and nearby communities use Mountain Time.

Official Oregon material describes Malheur County as the state’s Mountain Time county, while a state public-defense report notes that a small southern portion observes Pacific Time. The cities named above are the reliable traveler examples; for a remote southern Malheur address, check the host, employer, court, agency, or map service before setting a deadline.
When Oregon’s two time zones matter
Driving to Ontario or Vale
Phones often update automatically near the Idaho line, but a vehicle clock, hotel clock, or paper itinerary may not. Verify the local arrival time before leaving the rest of Oregon.
Flights, buses & appointments
Confirm the displayed local time at both ends. A Portland-to-Ontario itinerary crosses a time zone even though it stays inside Oregon.
Calling eastern Oregon
Before scheduling a work call, remember that Mountain Time is one hour ahead. This matters especially for schools, courts, local government and service windows.

Does Oregon change its clocks?
Yes, under the current schedule. Oregon moves clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and back one hour at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. Pacific and Mountain parts of Oregon change on the same dates, so the one-hour difference remains.
Oregon passed a 2019 proposal for year-round daylight saving time for much of the state, but it only takes effect if California and Washington make a linked change under the law’s conditions. It is not Oregon’s current timekeeping rule.

Ontario and Vale are part of Oregon, but their daily ties run east toward Idaho’s Snake River Valley and the Boise-area economy. The Malheur County Circuit Court describes the county’s time-zone difference as a geographic and economic connection to that region.
That makes this less of a trivia quirk than a practical regional reality: a school, court, business, hospital, or event in the area may operate an hour ahead of Portland even though the address says Oregon.
