Diagnosis: Superstar – Artist Gallery Reception with Teresa Getty

Join us for a Buckley Center Art Gallery reception with artist Teresa Getty. Teresa Getty’s survey exhibition, Diagnosis: Superstar, honors her daughter, the family’s “superstar”. Living with and caring for a child with a rare genetic condition has shaped and driven more than two decades of Getty’s artistic exploration. The Buckley Center Gallery will be presenting selected paintings and works on paper from across her artistic practice, including a series of new paintings made specifically for this exhibition.

These works have been created in response to the rhythms of care. Each period of making represented in the exhibition holds a marker to the ebb and flow of nurses in the home versus the weight of care on the artist shoulders, reflecting the extremes of changing support and the intensity of medical needs over time.

As a painter, Getty considers diagnosis as an ongoing, profoundly human experience, one that she meets with through painting and drawing with exuberance, translating these lived experiences into abstract visual forms that invite reflection, connection and hope.

Teresa Getty is a Seattle-based artist and educator whose paintings and works on paper embody experience, perception, and care. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her work has been exhibited nationally, and she is the recipient of two Lincoln Center teaching grants and an artist residency at the Vermont Studio Center. Visit her website at www.teresagetty.com.
