Fair warning… this is not the kind of place you go when you’re trying to “be good.”

Fogo de Chão has officially opened at Bridgeport Village in the old McCormick & Schmicks building (RIP), marking its second location in Oregon (the first being in Portland). And let’s just say, if you thought you could casually check it out and keep things under control… think again.

This isn’t just dinner. This is a full-blown situation.

Look at that face. This is the face of a guy who absolutely, 100% knows the gastrointestinal damage he's about to inflict.

You show up with a plan. You tell yourself you’ll pace it. Maybe start light. Maybe make responsible choices.

And then five minutes in, someone walks up with a skewer of perfectly grilled meat, and suddenly that plan doesn’t stand a chance.

So… What Actually Happens Here?

If you’ve never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, buckle up, Becky. Things are about to get wild and carnivorous up in here.

Instead of ordering one entrée like a normal, restrained human, you get continuous tableside service from gaucho chefs carrying skewers of fire-roasted meats. They walk up, slice it fresh onto your plate, and just when you think you’ve reached your limit… they come back again.

And again.

And again.

We’re talking:

  • Juicy picanha (the star of the show)
  • Garlic-crusted steak that should probably come with a warning
  • Bacon-wrapped chicken (yes, really)
  • Lamb chops that disappear faster than you expect
  • Pork that somehow keeps getting better the more you eat

There’s a small card at your table. Green means “yes, I can handle more.” Red means “please, I need a minute to rethink my life choices.” You will flip it. You will flip it back.

You are not in control here.

The Market Table (AKA Your First Mistake)

Then there’s the Market Table.

It looks innocent enough. Fresh salads, seasonal vegetables, imported cheeses, cured meats. You tell yourself this is where you’ll be balanced. Responsible. Grounded.

This is a straight-up lie.

Because everything is good. Like, dangerously good. And before you know it, you’ve built a plate that could count as a full meal… before the actual experience even starts.

Pro tip: show some restraint here.

Realistically? You won’t. But it’s nice to have goals.

Yes, Fogo is a Chain, But One with a Great Backstory

The founders of Fogo de Chão grew up on a traditional Southern Brazilian farm in the Serra Gaucha. It is here that they learned to cook in the churrasco grilling tradition that would become the backbone of their story.

Fogo de Chão

The founding brothers left the quaint, mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sulin, Brazil in 1975 for Rio and São Paulo. Their goal? Formal churrasqueiro training, all while developing the Fogo concept. The first wood-structure restaurant, nestled in the countryside of Porto Alegre, grew out of an obsessive dedication to quality, investments in the art and culture of the city, and a respect for the heritage of the founders’ families.

In 1997, the Fogo concept was exported to the U.S. with a stateside debut in Dallas, Texas. Today, they've expanded worldwide with locations as far-flung as Dubai, Bolivia, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico.

A Perfect Fit for Bridgeport Village

Bridgeport Village is known for being a little more polished, a little more “treat yourself,” and Fogo de Chão slides right in.

The space feels warm and modern, with an open churrasco grill that lets you see exactly where all that magic is happening. It’s lively without being chaotic, upscale without being stiff.

You can dress up. You can keep it casual. Either way, you’re here for one thing, and it’s not restraint.

Is It a Special Occasion Spot? Yes. Also… No.

This is absolutely the kind of place you go for:

  • Birthdays
  • Anniversaries
  • Date nights where you’re trying to impress someone
  • Showing off when friends visit from out of town

But also… you don’t really need a reason.

They offer lunch and a bar menu too, which means you can ease into the experience if you’re not ready to fully commit right away.

That said, once you go all in, it’s hard to go back.

A Few Survival Tips (You’ll Need Them)

Let’s look out for each other here.

  • Pace yourself: This is not a race, even if it feels like one
  • Don’t overdo the Market Table: (you will)
  • Try everything once: You’ll find your favorites quickly
  • Use the red card: This is not weakness, it’s strategy
  • Hydrate: Trust me on this

And maybe… don’t schedule anything important afterward. You’re going to need a minute.

Why Oregon Is Going to Love This Place

Oregonians already love good food. That’s not new. But we also love experiences. The kind you talk about later. The kind that feels a little over the top in the best way. Fogo de Chão delivers exactly that.

It’s interactive (think Benihana, but giant meat skewers instead of Japanese grill). It’s a little indulgent. It’s a lot of “okay, just one more piece”… repeated about 17 times.

And somehow, you leave already thinking about coming back.

Final Thoughts: You’ve Been Warned

Fogo de Chão isn’t subtle. It’s not trying to be. It’s bold, it’s generous, and it’s very, very good at giving you more than you planned for.

So if you’re heading to Bridgeport Village anytime soon, consider this your sign.

Go hungry. Wear something forgiving. And maybe don’t test your limits unless you’re ready for the consequences.

Because they WILL keep bringing the meat.

And you will keep saying yes.
