People have been known to travel from across the state just to sink their teeth into a Langlois Market hot dog, and it’s easy to see why. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill franks. The secret? A combination of specially made frankfurters and a house-made sweet mustard that packs just the right amount of kick. It’s a recipe that’s been winning hearts and taste buds for over 40 years.

The story of this iconic dog dates back to 1981. Langlois, a small town known back then for its sawmill and rich blue cheese, was in need of something tasty to feed hungry mill workers and truckers passing through. Enter Muriel Sweet, the mother-in-law of the market’s owner, who suggested they start selling hot dogs slathered in her famous homemade mustard. The idea caught on like wildfire and the Langlois hot dog became a local sensation.

Fast forward to today and the Langlois Market hot dog is nothing short of legendary. The market, still the only grocery store in town, proudly boasts hundreds of daily hot dog sales to locals and people passing through.

What makes these hot dogs so special? It starts with the frankfurter itself, made for Langlois Market by Hill Meat in Pendleton, Oregon. These franks come with a unique peelable casing that's peeled off before they're served so the dogs can have a consistent bite. Add a generous dollop of Muriel’s sweet-and-spicy mustard, and you’ve got a combination that keeps people coming back for more.

What makes the mustard so special? The homemade mustard is described as sweet and spicy, but not hot. It has just a little kick at the back of your throat when you take a bite. Muriel's unique homemade mustard was always being praised at picnics and gatherings before it started being served with hot dogs at the market. Mill workers and truckers passing through happened to agree that the mustard and the hot dogs were amazing, and started passing the word around. Soon people started stopping in from all over the state, drawn in by the word of mouth praise.

Langlois Market isn’t just about the hot dogs. It’s a no-frills, old-school convenience store where you can grab a quick, tasty meal. Order your dog at the food counter, pick it up, and pay at the register near the door—simple, quick, and undeniably delicious.
