Cannon Beach will host its 53rd annual Sandcastle Contest Saturday, June 17, 2017 — the oldest competition of its kind in the Pacific Northwest and the most popular event in Cannon Beach. In fact, this sandcastle event is said to be the oldest in the United States. Dozens of teams of professional sand sculpture artists, amateur groups and families will construct remarkable creations in the sand during the event.
Dozens of teams participate in the contest with divisions for Masters, who compete for cash prizes; plus large group, small group and children’s divisions with winners receiving medals and ribbons. Although the contest on Saturday is the highlight of the weekend, visitors will find plenty of other activities to keep them busy.
Every summer features incredible sandcastles, a beach bonfire, cash prizes live music, and more, this unique event is positively extraordinary. No matter if you are a professional or not, everyone is encouraged to participate and show off their unique sculptures.
This one of a kind event is fun for the whole family, with so many activities to participate in. Also worth mentioning is the 5k run which will be happening on the following morning. If you plan on going, make sure and to book a room in advance as the rooms will be filling up very quickly!
