Senator Christine Drazan is back in the race for Oregon governor, officially announcing Monday morning that she will seek the state’s top office again in 2026.

The Republican from Canby made her announcement at Gunderson Marine & Iron in Portland, telling supporters she’s ready to bring balance back to Salem, restore accountability, and tackle Oregon’s growing crises of affordability, homelessness, and public safety.

Drazan previously ran for governor in 2022, coming closer to victory than any Republican candidate in decades. Her narrow loss to Democrat Tina Kotek underscored what many see as a growing fatigue among voters after years of one-party control and failed leadership on housing, drug policy, and crime.

Within hours of her announcement, the Democratic Party of Oregon launched a full-throated attack, attempting to tie Drazan to Donald Trump and “far-right MAGA extremists.” Their statement accused her of supporting “a dangerous abortion ban,” cutting Medicaid funding, and opposing vote-by-mail — standard talking points aimed at painting any conservative candidate as an extension of Trump.

Republicans pushed back, calling the statement a desperate distraction from Oregon’s real problems: rising costs, record homelessness, and growing frustration with state leadership. Supporters say Drazan represents a return to common-sense governance — a leader focused on fixing what’s broken, not playing political games.

Drazan also recently returned to the state legislature after being appointed to the Oregon Senate by commissioners from Clackamas, Hood River, Multnomah, and Wasco counties. She fills the seat left vacant by Senator Daniel Bonham’s resignation on September 15.

Her re-entry into Oregon politics sets the stage for a fiery 2026 governor’s race — one that’s likely to draw national attention as voters weigh years of progressive policies against Drazan’s message of accountability, balance, and leadership rooted in Oregon values.
