Back in the early 2000s when I was living just off the University of Oregon campus, money was tight and life was simple. Most nights dinner was whatever I could throw together — something cheap, fast, and just enough to fill my stomach. But whenever I could scrape together a few extra dollars, I’d head straight to Track Town Pizza. I cannot speak highly enough of this fantastic little spot! I'd like to think I know my pizza, and there is absolutely no denying they are easily in my top picks for the Eugene area.

Track Town Pizza has been doing its thing since 1978, staying true to its roots: every pizza made to order with handmade sauce, fresh produce, and dough that’s crafted from scratch. It never felt like they were chasing trends — they just kept perfecting what they do best, year after year.

Their menu is a map through Eugene’s flavor history. The basic Pepperoni is timeless. The Olympian brings five toppings: pepperoni, sausage, black olives, mushrooms, and fresh Parmesan. The Taco Pizza is a fun twist — refried beans, enchilada sauce, seasoned beef, red onions, lettuce, chips, and tomatoes. The Hammer features pepperoni, linguica, and pepperoncini for some spice. Hawaiian Punch mixes Canadian bacon, pepperoni, and pineapple.

The decathlon-style Decathlon pizza layers Canadian bacon, pepperoni, salami, mushrooms, green peppers, red onions, olives, ground beef, and sausage — it’s like their all-stars come alive. Pies named Heptathlon and 5000 Meters lean heavy on meats; Track & Field Combo blends beef, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, mushroom, green pepper, and olives.

They don’t forget the chicken lovers. BBQ Chicken offers smoky sweetness. Garlic Chicken is floral and bright — olive oil, herbs, garlic, lemon, white sauce. Buffalo Chicken brings heat with Sweet Baby Ray’s. And Chicken Metropol is bold — pesto and artichoke hearts underscore that it’s not just “add chicken,” it’s a crafted specialty.

Vegetarian options hold their own. The Quattro Formaggi combines cooked tomatoes, pesto, and fresh Parmesan. Florentine layers spinach, ricotta, Swiss, garlic, and fresh tomatoes. Mediterranean includes extra cheese, feta, sun-dried tomatoes, and roasted garlic. Original Veggie brings mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, black olives, and fresh tomatoes. Gourmet and Pole Vault sprinkle complexity with sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, garlic, and pesto touches.

They also have an old-school salad bar and draft beer selection — parts of the place that make it feel like a gathering spot, not just a pizza stop. It was the kind of place you’d linger in, chat with a neighbor or watch a game on TV, even when all you really came for was a slice.

If you happen to stop by during lunchtime, don’t miss their all-you-can-eat pizza buffet and salad bar for just $12, running Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s one of the best deals in town — hot, fresh pizza rotating right out of the oven, a classic salad bar stacked with all the fixings, and that old-school Eugene atmosphere that just hits different when you’re grabbing a second (or third) slice.

In 2020, during the early days of COVID, when delivery became essential, Track Town Pizza expanded its reach. Suddenly they were delivering as far as Thurston in Springfield — a move that brought their pies into neighborhoods that might otherwise never have tasted them. Today they still deliver that far, feeding homes beyond campus edges. And word is, in the coming months they plan to open a new location in the Thurston area, bringing their legacy even closer to more of Eugene and Springfield.

Even now, when I walk past that storefront and take in the scents floating through, I’m transported back. The same crust, the same flavors, the same sense of home — Track Town Pizza hasn’t needed to change much to stay special. It remains a place where generations of locals, Ducks fans, and athletes have gathered since 1978—and now, soon, it’ll be right in Thurston too.
