SISTERS, Ore. – Central Oregon is facing another major wildfire as the Flat Fire has doubled in size to nearly 19,000 acres as of Saturday morning, according to the Oregon State Fire Dashboard. The fire remains 0% contained and continues to spread south, prompting new evacuation warnings in and around Sisters.
Flat fire is still actively burning. Many evacuations in place. Fire area and details will be updated after morning brief, typically. This is much bigger than 3,000 acres. Watch Duty app is the best way to monitor active fires in Oregon. pic.twitter.com/RUwyVS37zM

Level 3 (“Go Now”) evacuation orders remain in place under the direction of both the Jefferson County and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Offices. A temporary evacuation shelter has been opened at Highland Baptist Church in Redmond, and a large animal shelter is set up at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds for livestock and pets.

The fire is now under the oversight of Complex Incident Management Team 3, which assumed command on Saturday to coordinate resources and strategy. Governor Tina Kotek has invoked the Conflagration Act, which unlocks additional firefighting resources from across Oregon to help protect communities in the path of the blaze.
Fire crews are focusing on building containment lines and protecting homes, though hot, dry conditions and shifting winds continue to fuel fire growth. Smoke is already impacting visibility and air quality across the region.
Residents should expect fluctuating smoke conditions depending on wind direction. To monitor local air quality, visit fire.airnow.gov. Officials are urging everyone in the area to stay alert, follow evacuation notices immediately, and continue taking precautions to prevent new fires from starting.
