After Shari’s abruptly closed all of its Oregon locations last October—leaving behind empty booths, uneaten pies, and some serious nostalgia—another beloved Pacific Northwest staple is stepping in to take over those instantly recognizable hexagon-shaped buildings.
Elmer’s Restaurants, known for their hearty breakfasts and cozy atmosphere, have announced they’re opening several new locations across the state, all in former Shari’s buildings. According to Elmer’s website, the expansion includes new diners near Portland International Airport, in Hillsboro, Tualatin, and Bend.
The closure of Shari’s was tied to unresolved debts with the Oregon Lottery, which ultimately led the agency to send the chain to collections. But where one coffee pot stops brewing, another starts percolating.
No word yet on whether Elmer’s will be serving pies as iconic as Shari’s marionberry, but longtime fans of breakfast-for-dinner might just find their new go-to.
Looks like Oregon’s breakfast game isn’t over—it’s just got a new chef at the counter.
