Oregon is gearing up for another round of widespread protests this Saturday, June 14 — and this time, the message is simple: No Kings. The rallying cry is part of a massive nationwide day of action targeting former President Donald Trump, organized by groups like Indivisible, MoveOn, the ACLU, and more than a dozen others.
As reported by KGW News, the “No Kings” movement will take shape in more than 2,000 cities across the country, with Portland expected to be one of the biggest hotspots.
The date is no coincidence. While the U.S. Army is celebrating its 250th anniversary in Washington, D.C. with a planned military parade, critics note the parade was added recently — just in time to line up with Trump’s 79th birthday. It’s a move many see as part of a broader pattern of authoritarian theatrics, and Saturday’s protests are being positioned as a direct rebuke.
According to KGW, organizers say the demonstrations are a response to what they describe as "increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies." In the past week, backlash has intensified over Trump’s ICE raids and his controversial move to seize control of the California National Guard, deploying 4,000 troops over the objections of Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has taken legal action to challenge the order.
Here in Oregon, a sweeping list of protest locations spans from Portland to Forest Grove, Gresham to Canby — and even into southwest Washington. The flagship event will take place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland, with satellite rallies across the region feeding into the central protest.
