Whenever my friends and I came home from college, we wanted to get together and go out for sushi. There were several spots around Portland and Beaverton that we frequented on breaks from school, each with it's own unique twist. Portland is well known for its wide variety of cuisine, food trucks, and award winning restaurants, so we're not surprised that in a recent list of America's top 100 sushi joints that one in The Rose City made the top 10, and that two more from Beaverton and Portland made the list.
Oregon Has Four Of The Top 100 Sushi Restaurants In The U.S.
Sushi wasn't always an American favorite. It used to be considered too exotic... too scary. Today this Japanese dish is well loved by people across the U.S. can be found at your local grocery story and in dozens of restaurants across the state. Sushi almost always features fish (usually raw, but not always), rice, toppings and fillings. In Japan, sushi chefs train for years to learn how to cook the special sushi rice itself, and that's before they start to train on how to prepare the seafood that goes into the dish.
There's a wide variety of types of sushi, and many of the top spots on Yelp's top 100 list feature seafood that's flown in daily so it's as fresh as possible.

Portland loves food trucks and carts, so it's no surprise that Yoshi's Sushi, which is #7 in Yelp's list, is a food cart serving up sushi packed with flavor.

At number 75 out of 100, Bluefin Tuna & Sushi started out in Seoul, South Korea in 2011. The owners wanted to bring the flavors of Japanese and Asian cuisine to the US and brought Bluefin Tuna & Sushi to Portland, Oregon on NE Broadway.
Featuring noodles, rice bowls, and a wide variety of mouth watering sushi, this is a much beloved sushi spot for Portlanders.

#80 In Yelp's Top 100 - Tekkamaki Sushi In Medford, Oregon
To round out the list of top sushi spots in Oregon, we have to head about four and a half hours south of Portland on I-5 to Medford, where we find Tekkamaki Sushi. Road trip anyone? I can't imagine a better road trip with friends than heading out to try all of Oregon's top sushi spots.
This hot spot in Medford features authentic Taiwanese and Japanese cuisine, and has five stars on Yelp. Many reviews say the sushi is delicious and practically melts in your mouth.
