Alice’s Country House is my go-to restaurant anytime I’m headed home from the Tillamook coast or spending the day hiking in the Tillamook Forest. This classic, family-style restaurant serves up homestyle breakfast, lunch and dinner and is everything you want to prepare for or recover from a day of adventuring.

This restaurant—still run by Alice herself—has been open for 43 years and everyone in Tillamook County and beyond knows how great it is. It’s actually located about 10 miles northeast of Tillamook on Hwy 6 (also called the Wilson River Hwy), but it’s in the perfect spot to hit up as you're heading in or out of town after a day fishing on the Bay or just exploring the area.

No matter what time of day you’re here you’re in for a treat. Morning favorites are the Eggs Benedict made with a huge slab of ham and served with seasoned home fries or crispy hash browns, and toast, or the Corned Beef Hash served with hashbrowns and onions. Also worth mentioning are much beloved Brian's Breakfast Special which is biscuits and gravy topped with two eggs and two links, and their omelets which have led many reviewers to comment it’s the best omelet they’ve ever had! All omelets are build-your-own so you can customize it any way you choose. And, most breakfasts you can (and should) add a scoop of gravy on your hash browns!

For lunch or dinner you’ll have your choice of 13 different hamburgers. Favorites are the Louisiana Burger with onions, hot peppers, Oktoberfest sausage, sauteed in Louisiana hot sauce, poured over a beef patty and topped with pepper jack cheese. Or their SiskyVille burger topped with ham, pepper bacon, egg, Tillamook cheddar cheese, and special sauce.

Of course, one can’t write up a review of Alice’s without mentioning the mother of all burgers—the Challenge Burger! This is a two-pound Tillamook cheeseburger served with special sauce, all the fixins, on a 12-inch bun, with two large orders of fries. This could definitely feed the whole table, but if you can do it all yourself in under an hour it’s free!

If burgers aren’t your thing, try their Cheese Steak, Reuben, French Dip, or one of their large and fresh salads. But don’t eat too much, because you’ll definitely want dessert. Alice’s is known for their exceptional cakes and pies, all made fresh and in house. The carrot cake is a clear standout, but also great are the marionberry pie, chocolate cream pie, and ice cream.

The spacious and inviting restaurant is ideal for bringing big groups, but is also cozy enough for one of two people to grab a table or sit at the lunch counter. The walls are adorned with old photos of the area so it kinda has the feel like you’re eating in an old relative’s house with antiques, knick knacks, and nostalgic pictures all around you. The building itself is actually a house-turned-restaurant, so you do really get the “homey” vibe. It’s very kid-friendly and you’ll always get prompt, friendly service and be treated like a regular even if it’s your first time there. Pick up a jar of their homemade raspberry jam to take with you or a hat and t-shirt to commemorate your visit and show your Oregon pride!
