The menu reads like a greatest hits list of homestyle favorites such as fluffy pancakes so large they hang off the plate, omelets absolutely packed with flavor (seriously, cut one open and it practically overflows with meat, veggies and melted cheese), and a chicken fried steak that’s more like a full-on dinner entrée disguised as breakfast.

Portion sizes are huge, but I'm a light eater. Can I get smaller portions? Absolutely! For those with a more modest appetite, half portions are available. Many guests choose to get one large dish to share with a loved one though, or ask for a to-go box so they can take the rest home for a second meal!

Burgers, Salads And Sandwiches, Jake's Has So Much More Than Hearty Breakfasts

Yes, Jake’s is known for having the best breakfast in town, but don’t sleep on the rest of the menu. Lunchtime brings in a crowd too with sandwiches stacked high on Big Ed’s Bread, and burgers that more than live up to their names. The Big Bad Jake, for example, is a one-pound monster layered with ham, bacon or chili, and two kinds of cheese. It’s basically a dare on a plate, and a delicious one at that.

Other lunch favorites include the fish and chips, the grilled Reuben, and a BLAT with fresh avocado. For a lighter option, the Cobb and Chef’s salads are still hearty but won’t put you into a food coma.

From Truck Stop To Local Legend, Jake's Is Part Of Bend History

Jake's Diner hasn't always called Bend's eastside home. The diner's history goes back to 1987, when Jake Wolfe reopened his original restaurant at a truck stop and named it Jake’s Diner. Lyle Hicks, who had already managed the place for five years, stayed on and continued running it as the business grew. Then in 2004, when the Wolfe family sold the truck stop, Lyle and his wife Judy stepped in to keep the diner going. They bought the name, the equipment, and just about everything they needed to carry Jake’s forward.

With the original crew still on board, the diner was moved to a new building a few months after the sale and reopened in 2005. It wasn’t easy, but with a lot of help from the community, they moved the entire operation across town using pickups and trailers. Jake’s was back in business, serving up the same hearty meals locals had come to love.

Over the years, Jake’s has become more than just a place to eat. It’s a community hub, known not just for breakfast but for giving back. The diner hosts annual food and clothing drives, and supports local veterans, medical organizations, and emergency services. The Hicks family has always made it a priority to show gratitude for the town that helped them through tough times, and keeps coming back to dine at Jake's year after year.
