A devastating tragedy has shaken Josephine County after five members of the same family were found dead inside a rural Grants Pass home earlier this week. Authorities believe the case to be a murder-suicide.

According to a story from KGW, Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office were first called to the residence on Hussey Lane Monday after a woman living there did not arrive at work. Upon noticing concerning signs outside the property, deputies entered the home, where they discovered the bodies of two adults and three children. All had died from apparent gunshot wounds.

Oregon State Police identified the victims as 42-year-old Hannah Marie Behee, 40-year-old Chad Scott Behee, and their three children, ages 11, 9, and 7. Investigators believe Chad Behee was responsible for the killings before taking his own life.

The Sheriff’s Office turned the case over to Oregon State Police, who are now leading the investigation with assistance from the Grants Pass Police Department. Authorities are working to understand what may have led to the violence, which has left the community grieving the sudden loss of an entire family.

Sheriff Dave Daniel described the scene as one of the most unfortunate his deputies have faced, noting the heavy impact not only on relatives and friends but also on first responders who were called to the home.

Those with information that may help investigators are urged to contact Oregon State Police at 800-442-0776 or OSP (677), referencing case number SP25-366471.

The loss has left a painful mark on Josephine County, where the deaths of three young children and their parents have cast a long shadow over the community.
