The search for six people who were swept over Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River Saturday afternoon has taken another heartbreaking turn.
On Monday, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that divers recovered the body of a second woman from the river around 11 a.m. Crews have been combing the area by land, water, and air since the tragic incident, which unfolded just before 3 p.m. Saturday when the group went over the powerful cascade west of Bend.
Three individuals were pulled from the river alive and transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. One woman’s body was found shortly after the initial rescue efforts.
Authorities say the search for the sixth person — a man still unaccounted for — is ongoing. Recovery teams are using K9 units to scour the river corridor between the Dillon Falls Day Use Area and the Aspen Day Use Area, hoping to bring closure to the families impacted by this tragedy.
The names of the victims have not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.
The sheriff’s office said efforts to locate the missing man will continue “as long as conditions allow.”
