Early Monday morning in southern Oregon, a routine traffic stop on I-5 took a dangerous turn. At around 8 a.m., an Oregon State Police trooper, accompanied by a K-9 unit, pulled over a semi-truck cab for a minor traffic violation in Jackson County. What started as a standard procedure soon led to a startling discovery.
During a consensual search of the vehicle, the trooper uncovered two five-gallon buckets, each brimming with fentanyl-laced pills. The total weight of the pills came to a staggering 60 pounds, which equates to approximately 276,000 individual doses. The pills were bound for delivery in Portland.
The truck's occupants, Daniel Pena Gragoso, 42, and Josue Itzel Gomez, 28, both from Mexico, were arrested and taken into custody at the Jackson County Jail, however as reported by the Rogue Valley Times, the two men have since been granted a travel permit to return to their homes in Mexico.
