Thousands of Oregonians are gathering today, Saturday, October 18, for another round of “No Kings” protests—part of a national movement taking place in hundreds of U.S. cities.
Organizers say more than 60 events are happening across Oregon, stretching from the Portland metro area to Medford, along the coast, and throughout central and eastern Oregon.

The demonstrations follow large June rallies that drew tens of thousands statewide, including roughly 50,000 participants in Portland. Today’s turnout is expected to match or exceed that number.

Coordinated Efforts and Safety Measures

In Portland, police are coordinating with Oregon State Police and local partners to help ensure public safety. Portland Fire & Rescue medics and crews will remain on standby throughout the day as downtown crowds gather.
Authorities emphasize that the day’s goal is lawful assembly and safety for all attendees.

What the “No Kings” Movement Says It Stands For

Organizers describe the rallies as a stand for democracy, unity, and non-violent action, protesting what they view as harmful policies from former President Donald Trump.
Critics, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, have labeled the demonstrations “Hate America” protests — a characterization the group firmly rejects.

“They’re playing games with real people’s lives,” Johnson said on FOX & Friends.

Event leaders insist their participants are trained in de-escalation and stress that nonviolence remains the core principle of today’s events.
