ATHOL, Idaho – A viral TikTok video from Silverwood Theme Park has been making the rounds this week, showing riders on the park’s Spin Cycle attraction suspended upside down longer than expected.
The clip, posted by TikTok user @absteroo, shows the massive pendulum-style ride stuck in a vertical position, with passengers hanging upside down in the air for more than 15 seconds. The sight left some viewers rattled and sparked plenty of nervous comments about thrill rides.
Silverwood officials quickly responded, telling KREM 2 News that the moment was not caused by a mechanical failure, but rather by an unusual weight distribution among riders. When the weight on both sides of the ride is perfectly balanced, the Spin Cycle can hold itself upright for a short period of time before swinging again.
“This was a rare occurrence,” park officials explained, adding that the ride remained safe the entire time. In some cases, the ride can also appear to pause upright for 2–3 minutes if the balance is just right.
While no injuries were reported, the viral footage left many online swearing they’d never step foot on the attraction again. For others, it’s just another reminder that thrill rides come with surprises—even if they aren’t the kind you expect.
Silverwood, located in Athol, Idaho, is the largest theme park in the Northwest and is known for its roller coasters, water park, and high-intensity attractions like the Spin Cycle.
