Hey you guuuuys!
Fire up your Data-style gadgets, pull out your map to One-Eyed Willy’s treasure, and grab a Baby Ruth because it’s time to head to Astoria, Oregon, for one of the most epic celebrations the Pacific Northwest has ever seen. June 5–8, 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of The Goonies, and the quaint coastal town where it all started is ready to throw the ultimate birthday bash. Whether you're a die-hard fan who can quote every line or someone who just really appreciates a good Rube Goldberg machine, this event promises to be more fun than escaping from the Fratellis in a wishing well.
Let’s break it down: what can you expect from Goonies Weekend 2025, and why should you absolutely be there?
🏴☠️ A Trip Back in Time to 1985
Back in June of 1985, The Goonies burst onto screens with a treasure-hunting adventure that captivated a generation. With a screenplay by Chris Columbus and a story from Steven Spielberg himself, the film followed a ragtag group of kids (a.k.a. the Goonies) as they chased pirate gold, battled criminals, and cemented lifelong friendships.
Shot almost entirely in and around Astoria, The Goonies has become a permanent part of the city's identity. Now, four decades later, that legacy is stronger than ever. Visitors from all over the world make pilgrimages to see the iconic filming locations — and this June, Astoria is pulling out all the stops.
🎉 What’s Happening at Goonies Weekend 2025?
According to the official Goonies Weekend website, the celebration will run from June 5 to June 8, 2025, and promises a packed schedule of film nostalgia, interactive experiences, and plenty of "Goonies Never Say Die!" energy.

1. Film Screenings and Cast Appearances
Word on the street (and the docks) is that there will be multiple screenings of The Goonies, including at the Liberty Theatre, a historic venue that perfectly suits the occasion. Fans may also get the rare opportunity to meet original cast members, who will be hosting panels, meet-and-greets, and maybe even reenacting iconic scenes. (Fingers crossed for a Cyndi Lauper singalong.)
2. Self-Guided Filming Location Tours
Remember Mikey’s house? Data’s zipline adventure? The old Clatsop County Jail (now the Oregon Film Museum)? They're all still standing, and you'll be able to walk the same paths as your favorite characters. Local businesses will have maps available for a self-guided tour, so you can relive every moment, minus the booby traps (hopefully).
3. Goon Docks Street Fair
In honor of the legendary Goon Docks, downtown Astoria will transform into a festival zone with live music, themed vendors, food trucks, costume contests, and yes: Truffle Shuffle competitions. Vendors will be selling everything from pirate gear to retro Goonies tees so you can come home with the best souvenirs this side of One-Eyed Willy’s ship.
4. Behind-the-Scenes Exhibits
Special exhibitions will showcase props, memorabilia, scripts, and rare photos from the making of the movie. Expect displays that’ll transport you straight into the basement of the Fratelli hideout or into Chester Copperpot’s cryptic journey.
5. Fan Meetups and Photo Ops
From cosplay gatherings to photo booths with movie set replicas, the event will be Instagram gold. Pose on a replica of the pirate ship, or take a selfie with a lifesize Sloth cutout. There might even be a Sloth look-alike contest — just bring your Superman shirt.
6. Goonies Drive-In Car Show at Fort George Brewery
🏡 Local Spots You Can’t Miss
Even when it’s not Goonies Weekend, Astoria is a treasure trove of charm and nostalgia. During the event, these landmarks will be in the spotlight:
- Mikey’s House: Still a private residence, but the current owners sometimes allow respectful photo ops from the street. Please be courteous and follow all posted rules. NOTE: Out of respect for the owners' wishes, the house visiting hours will be CLOSED Friday, June 6th, so please save your visits for other days.
- Ecola State Park: Offers sweeping views like those seen in the opening scenes of the film. Perfect for picnics or pirate-inspired daydreaming.
- Oregon Film Museum: Housed in the old Clatsop County Jail, this museum honors all films made in Oregon, with a big emphasis on The Goonies.
- Astoria Riverwalk: A scenic stroll where you can watch ships pass by, snag some clam chowder, and feel like a true Northwest local.
🍽️ Eat Like a Goonie
After all that exploring, you’re going to need some serious grub. Here are a few places in Astoria where you can eat like a champion treasure hunter:
- Bowpicker Fish & Chips – This boat-turned-food-truck serves up some of the best albacore tuna fish & chips on the coast.
- Buoy Beer Company – Grab a pint and gaze out at the Columbia River. Try the pub pretzel or a local seafood platter.
- Frite & Scoop – Artisan ice cream and Belgian fries in the same place? Sloth would 100% approve.
- Fort George Brewery – Yummy fare, indoor/outdoor seating, and dog-friendly on the patio.
👪 A Family Affair
Whether you’re bringing kids who’ve never seen the movie (fix that immediately) or rekindling your own childhood memories, this event is built for multi-generational fun. With hands-on activities, family-friendly entertainment, and a nostalgic vibe that transcends age, it’s a weekend the whole crew will enjoy.
You don’t have to be a die-hard fan to appreciate the magic, although it does help. But if you are, be prepared for some serious feels. You might even cry when you hear that swell of music and Mikey’s speech: “Don’t you realize? The next time you see sky, it’ll be over another town…”
🎟️ Tickets and Info
Some events will be free and open to the public, while others (like cast meet-and-greets or special screenings) may require tickets. Head over to gooniesweekend.com for updates, tickets, an interactive map, and full schedules.
You can also follow Astoria’s official social channels and the Goonies Day Facebook group for insider tips, fan-planned meetups, and up-to-the-minute announcements.
🧭 Why It Matters
More than just a movie, The Goonies is a cultural touchstone; a love letter to childhood adventure, loyalty, courage, and believing in the impossible. For many fans, visiting Astoria isn’t just about taking selfies at Mikey’s house. It’s about reconnecting with something that made us believe we could conquer anything with a few good friends, a treasure map, and some clever booby traps.
This 40th anniversary isn’t just a party. It’s a heartfelt thank-you to a film that taught us all what it means to be a Goonie: brave, loyal, a little weird, and forever chasing dreams, even if they lead to underground tunnels and booby-trapped caverns.
So gas up your car (or your pirate ship), book a place to stay, and pack your red bandana. Astoria is calling, and Goonies never say no to an adventure.
