CRATER LAKE, OR — A couple visiting from out of state returned home Sunday after an "utterly underwhelming" trip to Crater Lake. Inspired by a Facebook post claiming Crater Lake was home to a stunning waterfall cascading into a glowing sapphire pool, surrounded by lush greenery and topped off with a bright pink unicorn, they were devastated to discover that Crater Lake is, in fact, just… a lake.
"I was expecting a literal fairytale," said Denise Troutman. "Instead, I got… a big, normal lake. Where’s the pink unicorn? Where’s the waterfall?"
The Facebook image, shared by a page called Wanderlust Vibes 24/7, featured the caption, "Crater Lake, Oregon: Most Beautiful Place on Earth 😍🌈🦄." To make matters worse, the couple later learned the image might have been loosely based on a popular waterfall hike located hours away from Crater Lake. But the unicorn? "Completely fabricated," said a park ranger.
"We drove all the way from Kansas because I thought we could see it all in one place," lamented Denise. "I figured, waterfall, magical unicorn, glowing lake? Crater Lake has to be the spot. Nobody told me I had to hike to a waterfall somewhere else!"
And while Crater Lake is globally renowned for its breathtaking views, the couple was less than impressed. "It’s just… blue water in a giant hole," said Tim Brewster. "There weren’t even any boats, and I didn’t see a single dolphin or tropical bird. I mean, how is this supposed to compete with what I saw on Facebook?"
Despite the crushing disappointment, the couple tried to salvage their trip by taking selfies at the lake, though the absence of mythical creatures left much to be desired. They have since vowed to report the Facebook page for "spreading lies about Crater Lake."
