DOUGLAS, COOS & CURRY COUNTIES, Ore. — The National Weather Service has issued a warning for a moderate risk of sneaker waves along the coastlines of Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties.
The heightened risk is expected to last from Monday morning through Tuesday morning.
Sneaker waves are dangerous, unpredictable waves that surge farther inland than typical waves, often catching people off guard. These waves have the potential to knock individuals off their feet, drag them into deeper waters, and even sweep debris, such as large tree logs, onto the shore, posing a serious risk.
High tides are anticipated on Monday evening between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 5:00 to 6:00 a.m., which could amplify the danger during these times.
Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution, stay alert near the water, and avoid standing too close to the shoreline or driftwood during this period.
