If you think you have seen it all in Portland think again. A new viral video from Mount Tabor dog park, one of the city’s popular off leash areas, might just be peak Portland and that is saying something. It is important to note that we do not have the full video or context of what happened before the recording began, but what is shown is enough to raise eyebrows.
The clip starts with a woman storming up to a man and immediately calling him an “unethical piece of [expletive],” accusing him of killing shelter dogs because she believes he bought purebred dogs instead of adopting. In a leap that can only be described as Portland logic, she almost instantly pivots from shaming him about dog breeding to accusing him of being a Trump supporter. It is as if no matter the topic, some Portlanders just cannot resist making it about Trump.
What follows is several minutes of shouting, pacing and finger pointing as she repeats “For every dog you buy, a shelter dog dies” over and over like a broken record. At one point, she hilariously tells him to get away from her while she is clearly the one walking toward him. The man, recording the encounter, tells her to get away while she continues her tirade without pause. Her unhinged fixation on both his choice of dog and his presumed politics paints a picture of someone completely untethered from reality.
Sadly, scenes like this are no longer shocking. Public meltdowns, wild accusations and political name calling over unrelated issues have become almost routine in today’s society. In Portland, it is simply another day at the dog park.
